This Roman Scutum is constructed from Poplar wood; a brass shield boss and brass riveted edging are fitted to the shield; its reverse is backed with strips of wood and it is held with a horizontal wooden grip.
This shield is smaller than the standard Scutum and also weighs less and is less obtrusive.
Please Note: The shield ships with the shield boss unmounted, so some assembly is required. Mounting hardware is included.
Hue of shield colors can vary.
It is common for this item to have patination on the brass shield rim and shield boss - it can be cleaned to a bright sheen with polishing paste and scuff pads.
