Developed by ArmaLite in the late 1950s, the ArmaLite Rifle was first marketed as a military rifle but had limited success. When Colt bought the design in 1959 and in 1963 the US military selected Colt to manufacture a standard issue automatic rifle. Using the AR design, Colt produced the automatic M-16 for the military and it soon became the standard issue for U.S. Troops in the Vietnam war. This success prompted Colt to produce a semi-automatic version of this rifle that was marketed to law enforcement and to the public as the AR-15. Colt’s patent expired in the 1970s and other manufacturers began making similar models. While these each had their own names, the title AR-15 soon became the generic term for all types of rifles in this style.
Our non-firing AR-15 M4A1 Variant is a 1:3 scale model made entirely of die cast metal. Modeled after the real AR-15, it has 3 adjustable stock positions, the charging handle pulls back, and the ejection port opens and closes. It also has a metal magazine with functioning release, a selector switch, and adjustable sights on Picatinny rails. The model comes with a trophy stand. You can mix and match with interchangeable parts and accessorize with attachments like our 4x scope.
